Health
Health facilities in Western Cornwall need to be defended vigorously.
Notwithstanding the excellent achievements of the Labour Government in relation to the strengthening of the NHS since 1997 – for example there are now over 38,000 more doctors and 80,000 more nurses – Philippa believes that local health facilities are something that must be championed in a non-party-political manner.
In September 2008, alongside local health campaigners, Philippa met with Ben Bradshaw MP, then Health Minister, to urge him to reconsider his views on the transfer of specialised cancer services from the constituency to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
Philippa is disappointed that, in his capacity as the incumbent MP, Andrew George has not done more to persuade those at Westminster of the need to retain these services in the area. If elected, Philippa would put health at the top of her agenda and ensure that the area’s services are actively championed in the corridors of Whitehall.

Philippa was selected by the local CLP to be the Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency of St Ives in May 2008.
