Housing
Cornwall is a highly desirable area to live. As in other such areas, this can result in increased pressure on the housing market, forcing up prices and denying local residents the opportunity to buy.
Philippa is pleased that in this year’s budget, the Government committed £1 Billion to kick start the housing industry and boost the supply of homes. This should have a positive effect in the region and enable local people to take their place on the housing ladder.
It is understandable that there is a lot of concern here about the impact of second homes. Philippa strongly supports the Labour Government’s decision to reduce the Council Tax Rate Relief for second home owners and urges the newly elected Unitary Authority to ring fence the funds generated from second homes to build new affordable homes for future local residents.
Soon after Philippa was elected by local residents to be the Parliamentary Candidate for the Labour Party, she attended a meeting with then Housing Minister Caroline Flint to discuss housing matters in Cornwall.

Philippa was selected by the local CLP to be the Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency of St Ives in May 2008.
